St. Patrick’s Day

Brace yourselves! There’s a lot to talk about this week and to be able to keep it as short as possible, I’ll get right to it!
If you’re here to read about the events on campus, please scroll down.
People from all around the world will be celebrating the 165th Saint Patrick’s day tomorrow. The annual parade took place on the damp streets of San Francisco last Saturday (see the photo above), and our fellow San Franciscans are getting ready to wear greens and head to Irish Pubs tomorrow to celebrate the day with Stouts in their hands!
If you’re looking to have an Irish day tomorrow, here are SFGate‘s favorite Irish Bars in the city.

“By students, for students.”
As we announced on our last couple of posts, we will be featuring one student club each week on our #SocialWednesday posts starting today! That’s 14 weeks! I would like to personally thank all of the club ambassadors and presidents who contacted me and provided me their introductory messages with the words coming straight out of their hearts. This is our first step forward in following our slogan, “By students, for students.”
Before we introduce you to our first featured club, take a look at the compiled list of GGU’s current student clubs below.
GGU Social presents…
Our first featured club is the club of many names: GGU’s Accounting Club; Chi Pi Alpha, also known as CPA. Here’s what the president of the club Stephanie Dodge has to deliver to us:
“Hello GGU Students!!
Chi Pi Alpha (CPA) is the GGU Accounting Club. As one of the oldest clubs on campus, CPA has been active for over 100 years. With over a hundred members (currently active members and alumni included) it is also one of the biggest clubs on campus; which means it provides an extended network for your career. Our members have gone on to work for a variety of firms throughout the Bay Area (including the Big Four). CPA welcomes members from all majors on campus, although the majority of our members are accounting, tax, and finance majors.
The clubs goal is to provide an opportunity to get to know your fellow students outside of class, while extending your network and having an opportunity to meet alumni at a variety of different firms.
This past winter, CPA held its Annual Holiday Party. The party was a huge hit, with students and faculty mingling together with music, snacks, and drinks!
The club also strives to give back to the community; this past Fall we hosted the Blood Centers of the Pacific for a blood drive. We were able to collect over 20 life-saving donations.
Upcoming events include a Professional Certificate Information Seminar followed by a reception with PWC partners and associates; tentatively scheduled for late April.
In May we plan to schedule an Intern Panel; giving students an opportunity to hear (and ask questions of) a variety of experiences from their peers who had recent intern experiences (or those who decided to do something else to further their career).
Additionally, since the last party received such rave reviews, we are planning a Fourth of July Bash!
If you have any questions about the Chi Pi Alpha, please feel free to reach out. The club email is email@example.com.”
If you’re one of those people who missed their Holiday Party, then we’re truly sorry because it was one of the best social gatherings I’ve attended to at GGU!
Now to the events…
If you’re looking to get some tips for your future job interviews, tomorrow’s workshop might be what you’re looking for. Interview Strategies will take place in room 4222 on the 4th floor starting at 5:00 PM tomorrow.
Persian Professionals Club will be hosting a Persian New Year (Nowruz) celebration party at GGU on March 21st! They informed us that they will be serving many traditional Persian dishes. They want all of you to go taste their delicious food and celebrate Nowruz with them. This event will take place down at the Plaza Lounge, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 21st.
Assuming you attended to ELEVATE your career, got your profile photo taken and have already started working on your LinkedIn profile, you might feel in need of some tools in order to expand your network. Networking with LinkedIn will provide you useful tips and tricks you can use in doing so. Make sure to stop by at this workshop on March 22nd.
We hope you enjoyed reading this week’s #SocialWednesday post. If you missed last Sunday’s Pinpoint post on Sunday, make sure to read it here. In the next edition of #SocialWednesday, we will be introducing you to another student club. We’re not going to announce next week’s featured club to keep your excitement going! The post will also include a Latino networking mixer event that will take place outside the campus on March 24th called Latinos in Finance. Latinos, keep your eyes locked on GGU Social!
Please let us know what you think of GGU Social so far, and submit the topics and features you would like us to include by e-mailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org! You can also contribute in this 2-question survey to let us know a little bit about your thoughts.
