A New Beginning

Welcome new students

This week marks a new beginning to a lot new faces who just joined our community. Let’s make sure that we give every single one of the individuals who just joined the diverse community of Golden Gate University a warm welcome and get the best out of their experiences!

In last week’s #SocialWednesday, we announced that we were going to be hosting a tiny contest that had to do with the handouts that we created for the orientation day. Three of those handouts had stickers behind them, which were going to get three lucky people Golden Gate University t-shirts!

We expected to have three winners, but only had two of the lucky contestants contacting us. Before we get into the club introductions, let’s all congratulate Tamami and Jiali on winning a Golden Gate University t-shirt!

And to the third lucky person: If you’re reading this, contact us using the instructions on the sticker located in the back of your GGU Social Handout to claim your t-shirt!

GGU Social Club J-Crew

This week’s featured student club is Golden Gate University’s one and only Japanese student club, J-Crew. They are fairly active, and are really proactive about spreading the Japanese culture. And interestingly enough, Tamami and Jiali—the lucky t-shirt winners—are both members of J-Crew!

Here’s what J-Crew’s president, Wakana Natori has to deliver to us:

“One of purposes is that we want to share and spread the Japanese culture and food because Japan is part of Asia and it’s a very small country. However, we have an original culture such as our language, foods, and manner… Actually many people know Sushi, Kimono, etc..
We are very happy that many people are interested in learning more about Japan, and we want you to know more about Japan. Moreover, we want to help new students to apply to GGU. We have had meeting and dinner to know each other. That’s why we found J-Crew.

We have had several Japanese events such as Takoyaki Party, Japanese festival event. Last term, we attended cultural fair and served Japanese snacks, activity(Kendama), and traditional green tea which we performed how to make in front of students. These opportunities are very good to show what are traditional Japanese ones.

Kick-off events

This week’s first event to keep an eye on is the kick-off event of our newest student club.

The L.O.V.E. Club’s kick-off event is going to take place in room 5224 on the 5th floor. The club will be screening 1996’s “the Birdcage” starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, and providing the guests with pizza, snacks and beverages.

How can you not LOVE this club?!

Job Search Strategy Session DS

On next Tuesday, May 10th, the Office of Career Planning will be hosting their brand new workshop called “Job Search Strategy Session” to assist you with planning a better job search.
