Remember our posts about SGA’s Summer ’16 Vice President election? Well, today is the day we finally get to reveal the new Vice President for Community Involvement for Summer ’16!
Social Heads, meet Mary Abdelnour, SGA’s new Vice President for Community Involvement.
Mary is pursuing her MBA degree with concentration in Human Resources at Golden Gate University. She has over 10 years of international volunteering and 3 years of community development experience. She is hoping to bring her expertise to the students of GGU through the volunteering.
I had the pleasure of meeting her today over a coffee. Just like many of you, Mary is an international student passionately chasing her dreams in the United states. She’s from Egypt, and she started her education here at Golden Gate University in Fall ’15. I asked her if she had any words that she would like me to deliver to our dearest readers and followers, and here’s what she had to say:
“When I moved to San Francisco nearly a year ago, I was a complete stranger to the American culture, the diversity of the city and the community of Golden Gate University. I had countless of concerns that made my adjustment process harder progress. I signed up for the Mentoor/Mentee Program that Golden Gate University offers every term and with the help of my mentor–who then became my friend–I motivated myself to engage with the community by participating in the events and simply interacting with people which made me realize how wonderful our community is!
I have a clear vision as to how I can serve our community both internally and externally. I plan to strengthen GGU student involvement with the outside community. I realized that the GGU community has a strong network of professionals and through my role, I’m hoping to facilitate activities that will help students to get the most of networking benefits as well as encouraging them to participating in volunteering events outside GGU.”

Towards the end of July, we will be hosting a social gathering party featuring our beloved DJ, Mondee B. who played different sets in some of the earlier events that were sponsored by SGA.
