We are publishing this week’s Social Wednesday post a little bit earlier than usual because today is the new orientation day at Golden Gate University! We would like to welcome all of the new faces of our community and we can’t wait to meet all of you at tonight’s cocktail reception. Come meet us in the Business Library anytime during the cocktail reception starting from 7:30PM until 8:30PM and learn more about what we do here at GGU Social.
One of the reasons why we are publishing this post earlier is because of our traditional t-shirt giveaway. During the orientation day, you will be handed at least one of the handouts shown in the photo above. Five out of this batch of handouts have stickers on their backs saying “Today is your lucky day!“. Make sure to check the back of the handout to see if today, in fact, is your lucky day!
News & Updates
Linda (Meng) Lu, one of the creative souls here at Golden Gate University, has recently teamed up with the university staff to bring her participatory public art project to life. We reached out to her to learn more about what she’s doing with her Before I Die board, and here’s what she had to say:
“Before I Die is a participatory public art project started by Candy Chang–a Taiwanese-American artist– in which you can reflect up your life and express your goals in a public space. I’m doing this to remind the GGU community that it is never too late or too early to accomplish your goals.
My Before I Die board is located in the hallway close to the library, towards the north exit. It will stay up on the wall until the end of September for our community to participate.”
Here’s Candy Chang’s TED talk for those who would like to learn more about this public art project.
We have one more riddle to publish before concluding our month-long treasure hunt contest. It seems that all of the puzzle pieces we hid so far were found! We hope some of you are going to be challenging the team of three we mentioned in our earlier post!
The participants are required to turn in all the puzzle pieces they have collected at our Welcome Party on September 8th. We will determine the winner and award them with the prize package during our event!
The prize package will include a Visa gift card along with some Golden Gate University merchandise!
SGA’s candidate registrations for this year’s elections closed yesterday. The next step is to vote! Elections will begin on August 29th and close on September 11th. Your voice matters, do not forget to cast your vote through GGU4YOU platform.
Events to keep an eye on
One of our student clubs, Wing of IT Students is hosting their networking event on August 31st!
If you’re looking to get right to business, Office of Career Planning will be hosting their Cover Letter Cafe event on September 1st!
Keep an eye on our next Social Wednesday post to learn more about our Welcome Party and other events that will take place on campus!
