On March 2nd, Team Alpha Lab of Golden Gate University’s Investment Research Club (IRC) has took home a remarkable trophy from the CFA Institute Research Challenge!
Those who don’t know, the CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. The competition score is based on 50% written report and 50% presentation.
We reached out to William Xu, and asked him to share their story. Here’s what he had to say:
“GGU Investment research club proudly sent out two four-member teams, Team Alpha Lab and Team Analyst to compete in this year’s competition. The GGU teams were coached by adjunct professor, David Kaczorowski, who is also the IRC sponsor. Enough cannot be said about the Professor Kaczorowski, who selflessly dedicated his personal time and patiently advised and mentored both teams.
There were 16 teams from different universities represented in the Northern California round of competition. Both GGU teams started in mid-December on the research with enthusiasm unknown to mankind, and turned in an equity report on HP, Inc. on Feb 18th of 2017. On March 2nd, the GGU teams competed in the 10-minute presentation of the research hosted in 555 California St., San Francisco.
Team Alpha Lab and Team Analyst represented our school well in the first round. Alpha Lab was able to advance to the final round to face off with Sacramento State in front of auditorium of audience. Through teamwork, dedication and grit, Alpha Lab’s hard work finally paid off, and soundly claimed final round victory. Alpha Lab’s written report was also top ranked.”
Next step for the GGU team is the trip to Seattle on April 6th to represent CFA institute San Francisco and our school, and compete with winners from across North and South America. Winner of the next round advances to world final. We are proud of you Team Alpha Lab, keep up the good work!
