During this sad and traumatic time following the killing of George Floyd and a number of recent victims of racial injustice and violence such as Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray and countless other African Americans in this country. We must come together and become a catalyst for change. As a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty, we decided to create this new additional channel to use our strength in unity to learn from and inspire each other.
This, is our vigil. Not only for us to mourn for the lives that are lost, but also to express ourselves and support each other in this diverse community. This webpage is a safe space for our community to share their thoughts and feelings about the protests sweeping our country and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Please share your experiences in order for all of us to hear the voices of our community and amplify the stories that have previously been neglected or gone unheard. When you’re posting a comment on this webpage, you will have the option to contribute anonymously if desired. We are here to support each other and would love to hear from you! “There comes a time when silence is betrayal” – Martin Luther King Jr.
If you’re currently an active student at GGU and interested in starting a student resource group to create greater impact at our institution and beyond, we encourage you to contact our department at firstname.lastname@example.org and express your interest.
We will be hosting a webinar on June 25th, 2020 at 6:00 PM PST to further our response to these recent events. Please pre-register for the event here
